A Clever, Snappy Art Thread Title

Recommended Posts

So, several months ago, I had an art dump. For about two weeks. Then, school, life, blargh, etc got in the way, and my thread fossilized. Rather than bringing it back as a member of the shambling undead, I thought I would start a new one. (Plus, there are pictures in that old one that I really don't like. It's like Fight Club. The first rule of Old Thread is we don't talk about Old Thread. *Ahem*)
Anyway, there was one picture I sunk a lot of time into, and didn't look back upon with dislike, which was of a composite Grue, reposted below for frame of reference. Eww, a repost, poke it with a stick!

I've been really wanting to sketch lately, and now I think I'll have access to a scanner again. So, I figured, why the heck not, let's try some more things in this style. I personally lack a distinctive style, so the drawing types may vary widely from post to post as I try out new things. And I'll say this right off the bat: I may post infrequently. When the mood strikes me. As homework and life allow. Sometimes. Maybe. So while I will try to keep it from becoming a zombie thread, no guarantees.

TL;DR
Had old stuff, making new stuff, might be infrequent.

I made a few drawings of some of the mobs from Don't Starve in a happier light. We only get to see them mauling Wilson, but I'd like to think that when he's not around, they manage to do their own thing, and have a little fun. Well, that, and I was sick of drawing angry mobs.

So have some hallucinations watching fireflies.

Wow you guys, thanks! I'm glad you like it. Now if I could just find a way to rename my thread something cool, I'd be all set. I didn't want to call it a fanart dump like my last one, but now I'm worried that I made my title too sarcastic...:wilson_dilemma: Any ideas on a new, nonsnarky name?

I'm going to be tacky and doublepost. But since it's art, I have an excuse.

Even though I don't like spiders in real life, they're pretty cute in Don't Starve.
However, I'm pretty sure that's not how you become a Spiderqueen. A for effort, though.

I've decided not to color these unless the mood strikes me/it's really necessary (like the fireflies). Mostly because it takes forever to color my scanned sketches in Gimp with a trackpad, and it doesn't wind up looking very nice.

Though Maxwell has his hounds trained to go after Wilson with the focus of a heat-seeking missile, sometimes they can get distracted. Because when you have the choice between mauling a heavily armed gentleman scientist and chasing butterflies, there is only one logical option.

You guys, these responses....they make me all http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lozk2tgEuD1qkacg3.gifCute normally isn't my thing, but now that I've started, I can't stop. For now I know the truth: the cuteness cannot be stopped. Resistance is futile.More than futile. It's cute-ile. I'm just going to have to work my way through all the monsters...except for the Night Hands, because those things are awful no matter what. No matter how many times I squish them, they still freak me out.

Tentacle lives on the edge of the swamp, next to the meadow. Tentacle likes flowers, but he can never seem to reach any. Luckily, his friend Frog can catch butterflies with his tongue, and replant them in the swamp, so now Tentacle can have all the flowers he likes.

I'm not sure which mobs to post next. I'm thinking bees, but I-

Well, never mind that. I guess Krampus is next.

As a side note, updates may be sporadic for the next little while: My access to a good scanner will limited for a week or so, and I'm going to be crazy busy with family, etc.

I am ready to murder this scanner, I swear. It takes ages to get anything to work, and once it does, everything's all faded and gross, and the filesize is preposterous. I noticed I forgot to darken the tips of the jackelope ears, but it was such a hassle to upload that I just said forget it. I really just need to get a tablet, rather than messing around with colored pencils and Sharpie and hissy-fit scanners. I'm half expecting it to start demanding blood sacrifices, and we all know how that goes.
"Hey pal, looks like you're trying to scan a picture... how badly do you want to do that, hmmm?"

Anyway, here's Krampus going on his daily rounds. When he's not swiping Wilson's stuff, he's collecting carrots for the local jackelope population. Of course, there's always room for a few bunnies to come along for the ride. Onward to carrots!

Krampus is totally a good guy! When he harasses Wilson, it's only because he's wracked with grief over the loss of his bunny friends. He is vengeance. He is the night. He - is - Krampus! And I see what you did there, BarovSoap. Thanks! I think the slice of pie in your signature is clever, too. Hopefully it's apple pi, seeing as that's the best kind. On an unrelated note, I was doodling and came up with a non-cute-related idea. Introducing, the Meat Decoy! *enter ritzy commercial music*post-6023-13764592195933_thumb.jpgTired of being cornered by hounds, unable to throw off the deerclops, or trampled to death by platoons of beefalo in heat? Then the Meat Decoy is the product for you. Simply give it a crank, and watch as it bounds off, giving you a few precious seconds of leeway. Then, either make your escape, or attack the distracted enemy. Those who fight and run away, live to fight another day...with the Meat Decoy! It would probably be expensive to craft, as it would give you a way to get back to your base if you're about to be mauled by hounds in a tricky spot. Eventually, it would break, allowing mobs to catch up with it and eat it, at which point they return aggro on you. I'm thinking it would have to cost several monster meat, 2 gears, and 4 living logs, in order to keep it from being op.

So I was thinking about games that I like.
Games that feature survival in a harsh, unforgiving environment, gratuitous amounts of science, and omnipresent, condescending, sinister antagonists who spend time as a potato. There's more overlap than one would think.

"There's no sense crying over every mistake, we'll just keep on trying 'till we run out of...Wilsons. Luckily, I don't see that happening any time soon."

...I regret nothing.
