  1. Ello again. Today I have yet another minor issue. Nothing too major, but something I may need to fix later on. Firstly, I'm seeing an issue with my character's health and hunger changing during the phases of day. He starts out weak during the day, so he has low health but greater hunger. And during dusk and night his health increases and his hunger decreases. The issue I'm having is, they reset to their assigned number even after hunger went down or I've been damaged. Eg. During the day his health is base 100, he took damage and was reduced to 50. But dusk rolls around and his stats change to his base health which is suppose to be 200. I want to make it so he still retains the damage but his base health still changes. Same with hunger. If his hunger went down I'd like it to carry over to the other phases rather than resetting. Hopefully I am making sense? ^^;
  2. Now this thread is not meant to call anyone out, nor is it about venting your frustrations over mistakes noobs make. These are tips aimed more at showing ways of being considerate than improving your skill at the game. I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, so when I play DST I tend to hop on a random server and help out all I can before I have to leave (sometimes hosting my own server if I can't find one, which tends to be lonely), and I thought it would be nice to share ways I've found of not being a liability and not getting on peoples bad sides. I'd like to see other peoples tips too, in case there's some I've missed or just haven't thought of. So here's mine :3 Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining: This one's simple, but it goes a long way in not annoying people. Now I know that when you first enter a server you want to know where you can come to at night to cook and spam the /dance emote, but be patient. If you aren't given directions or offered an escort, explore, gather some things, get your bearings. People will respect you more if you survive a few days before asking where the base is located. Who knows, you may even find it on your own! Don't Pick Everything: When first entering one of the many randomly generated islands, our brains tend to immediately slip into PICK ALL THE THINGS mode, especially those of us who've spent a fair amount of time in the single player game. However, when playing in multipayer, one has to stop and think, "Hey, if I systematically pick every bit of flint, grass, twigs, and food from around the portal in a ten mile radius, then there won't be anything left for new players!" Please, be considerate. How can you expect new players to survive a few days if they can't even scrounge up enough for a torch? Drop some Flint by the Portal: It's a small thing that'll help out people just entering the server. You don't even have to go out of the way to do it; if you happen to be pasing by the portal and have some flint to spare, just drop some by it, or make a pickaxe to leave behind so they can collect their own. Heck, I've heard of people making a chest by the portal containing equipment like torches, rabbit earmuffs, and pickaxes to help new players out. Don't Enter in Winter or Summer: Pay attention to the day and season of the server you're joining. If you want to join in a difficult season for some extra challenge, go ahead. Just don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to help you out. If you don't want Strangers, set a Password: You'd think this one would be a no brainer, but I've heard a lot of stories of people joining servers just to be kicked the moment they enter. I assume it only happens when someone doesn't know that they can make a password for they're server, but still, it's rude. Drop your Stuff Before you Leave: Before you leave a server, it's nice to drop your items on the ground so others can use them. If you're playing with familiar people on a server you know you'll be on again, you can keep your equipment. In any case it's still rude to leave with gears, a big stack of silk, or any other important items still in your inventory, selfishly taking them out of reach of the unfortunate players left on the server. Keep Busy: Look around the base. Does it still need some drying racks? A crockpot? Some farms? Do the traps need to be emptyed? Are you low on wood? Look around for things that need to be done, and if you're having trouble finding something, it never hurts to ask. No one likes a leach. I hope you enjoyed reading through my wall of text and I didn't waste your time. Feel free to post helpful tips of your own, and you might help a few people become a little more helpful. Maybe. If you want a tldr just read the bold text.
  3. I still plan to make a guide eventually- this base is a design based on my original cycle 100+ base merged with the idea of a roof for hydrogen by a streamer named cptcalavera found here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/123491436 I have tons more screenshots since the time I chose my characters on my steam page here http://steamcommunity.com/id/RedstoneSV/screenshots/?appid=0&sort=newestfirst&browsefilter=myfiles&view=imagewall (Note further in is my previous world and my 3 "learning the game worlds") I do not plan to restart this and I will keep it going as far as I can, I will probably add more dupes than the only 6 I ever had because there is no good source of energy besides the hamster wheels so they will just be power workers. My one tip for you is to always choose destructive if stressed so you don't get a nuke of puke that just makes everybody stressed. Screenshot time
  4. I made it to cycle 100. Yes 100- I have no idea how many hours that is even on full speed but all I can say is 20 hours in just one week is crazy (this is my 4th world). I used the oxygen efficiency approach ( <-- click here) Elviraa made by them self pretty much; modified a ton by me to get the most out of nothing. I was pretty lucky to have a spawn with lots of water puddles. (more about how I did it below the images This is the start of my base on cycle 5 This is the end result (cycle 100) http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/97228916904689700/1842F76877A7487ECABC750A56C8F557FDD25A38/ I plan to make a guide/tips on how to make it that far in the game eventually. Here is my steam community page with a hundred something screenshots of the base (note not all are in order by cycle) http://steamcommunity.com/id/RedstoneSV/screenshots/?appid=457140&sort=newestfirst&browsefilter=myfiles&view=imagewall Conclusion I plan to restart. Yeah? I know I'm crazy- I do not want to see my inevitable death. This game even if not intended to be is about trial and error and learning every time you play, if something works, great, if it fails, it fails horribly. it was going downhill since around day 80 because I selected the last tier item in research for gas stuff- and if you don't know last tier research takes ABSOLUTELY LITERAL TONS OF WATER which got everything out of wack and I was struggling since. Overall you should all just have one algae deoxy with constant airflow everywhere until you can get a electrolyzer- hydrogen doesn't become much a problem if you have a lot of space, but I pumped it into vacuums, well almost vacuums. My one tip until I make a guide is to never use coal generators that high and avoid them as most as you can- all my coal was used up by day 85~ and because I only used one airlock the CO2 would leak everywhere- even if I had two that wouldn't guarantee it all from leaking. Anyways thanks for reading and hoped this helped you even in the slightest way. Also, making mineshafts is fun and cool using vents. Just one more thing... Always have hand sanitizer closed in like you would treat a coal generator- chlorine leaks everywhere from it because it emits it and it is is nearly impossible to clean up besides vacuuming the whole room up and separating it in pipes.
  5. So far I've got a few problems with maxwell which for the life of me I cannot seem to be able to fix.First is the shadow puppets.When the hounds attack,the workers are always instagibbed and I cannot protect them.That is a major issue for me.The second issue is his fragile hit points. I always move around with armor since I get twice the amount of damage normal characters get (that's half hp for maxwell) but I always run out of armor and not having a backpack with me is annoying. Plus when it's raining and when it's summer you have to wear this nice eyebrella but that leaves no room for helmet. Thanks in advance for any tips.
  6. Took some sweet long vacation, and here is the episode 7. Hope you enjoy
  7. Hello world! JamesBucket here with something quite different. I know DST is basically DS RoG multiplayer, but there are some unique features I found, so I put them together. Hope you find them useful, and CHEERS!
  8. What's the best way to accumulate a food surplus in DST? I've been playing on a server with some friends, and we tried several strategies that rapidly depleted: 6 farms of dragonfruit near a frog field -supposedly after I left the server that day winter hit, and two out of 4 people who originally set up the base barely made it through winter. 2 beeboxes and about 8 berry bushes -beeboxes took too long to set up, due to difficulties getting silk. -berrybushes...aren't that useful, we had more, but they were unfertilized. Koalefant hunting-with someone constantly hunting koalefants, we got a fairly decent rate of meat coming in...that soon stopped because the hunter left. most of the meat was converted to jerky. Any ideas? Tips? Strategies for food rationing?
  9. I've never really spent much time refining my base and prettying it up before, so today I made a server specifically for the purpose of building an awesome base. I picked Wickerbottom so I could get an early start and spent the first few days exploring, eventually settling on a spot between a bunch of frog ponds and a savanna with plenty of rabbits and beefalo. However, now that I've picked the spot I find myself kind of overwhelmed. I was just wondering if anyone had good tips for a cool looking, functional base. Even just posting some screen shots for inspiration would be great. Thanks in advance!

Summary : Collecting Resources.Wondering if my world is composed of islands.Finding a huge Mosaic Biome.Mining Rocks in Rockyland and Setting a Base.Exploring the Mosaic Biome and Acquiring the Resources for Rain Hat.Finding a Sinkhole.Crafting my Rain Hat. Notes : I have made a few mistakes during the gathering of resources. I didn't pick enough grass at the game start. How to survive Spring : Hammer any skeleton you find for bone shards. Hammer Pig Houses and Touch Stones for Pig Skin in order to create an Umbrella. Building a large stack of grass and twigs is essential in order to farm spiders with traps. Destroy Spider Hives Tier 3 to get spider eggs. Plant the eggs near your base. A Crockpot with a Birdcage will give you a steady amount of food. You can transform monster meat into eggs. Eggs are used in Bacon and Eggs Recipe. It is recommended to create meaty stew when you have large meat (value of 1). A lantern will make exploration easy. Keep in mind that you will have to use Roasted Berries or Fist Full of Jam unless you have farms while being in caves. It will save encounters with Bunnymen and it can save you time. You can hammer Bunny Hutch to rebuild them in the above world near your base. Pigs and Bunnymen will provide a full protection against hounds. You should try getting gears by fighting ClockWork Monsters. A flingomatic is almost required if you want to survive summer. If you come across a desert, you should build a large stack of cactus flowers, hound's tooth and bone shards. Inventory Management is the most important aspect in Don't Starve. Keep a third of your inventory empty. Leave things on road when you don't need them. Travel with only one hat or with a football helmet only to save space. Use cones to plant trees and burn them once they become evergreens to get charcoal. Never gather too many tools. You can burn turf if you don't want to gather wood. I like to gather rocks personally to set up Fire Pits when I am travelling. I can always re-use them later. Fire Pits will help you to survive long nights when it's raining. Commentaries If there's not enough content to make a good judgement, you can wait a few days until the next video will uploaded to Youtube. I don't have a regular schedule. I believe that using all the Youtube features will make it on par with the other videos. I will not talk. Once I have enough content, you may place a judgement on the Playlist (content, author, execution, processing, editing, relevance, polishing).
  12. Hello friends, as a complete and total noob when it comes to RP; I would like to start one up, as practice is the best way to get good at this type of thing. (there's probably going to be an entire army of Wilsons running around) again Im just a beginner when it comes to this so if a more experienced person could help kick this off that would be the best I literally have no clue what I am doing and have no clue how this is supposed to work out PLEASE HELP (the bird in my avatar name is Napkin btw uvu) *THIS RP IS NOT ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS*

  22. what if Maxwell is Wilson's father or uncle or some important male father-figure type role, and he either hates Wilson (because he did something bad, for which he is now being punished) or surviving is some right of passage for the alchemist. that would be a twist... lol any other good theories/ideas?

  25. Tip: In beggining of the game easier way to KILL(not catch) bunnies - if you have noticed that every(as far as i know) bunny has it's own hole, so if you know in which hole bunny will run, you can go in direction from that hole to bunny(you should as well click "attack" on him, the bunny(no matter what) will run towards the hole, and you caracter will get a hit on it. If you want, you can post your own tips and tricks!
